Northern Lights School Division No.113 is a provincial school system serving a predominantly Indigenous school population throughout an area encompassing the entire northern half of Saskatchewan. The schools are very diverse ranging from 10 to over 500 students per school, and catering to Cree, Dene, Métis, French, and English cultures and languages.


NLSD provides a full range of pre-kindergarten to Grade Twelve programs to more than 4300 students in 21 schools. We have offices located in the beautiful communities of La Ronge and Beauval, both approximately 400 kilometers north of Saskatoon.

 

The division is progressively piloting programs unique to Canada, staying on the cutting edge of technology, and integrating the varied cultural aspects of the communities into the classrooms.

 

The mission of the NLSD Board of Education is: In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, NLSD students will feel a sense of belonging where they can flourish academically in safe, inclusive, and welcoming schools that promote pride, language, and culture in a healthy way. The Land Language Culture Coordinator will strive to promote learning and connection through land, Indigenous language, culture, and traditional knowledge.

FTE: Full-time

Term of Employment: Continuing - contingent on funding through Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District (NSCRD)

Salary and Benefits:  According to education and experience.

Definition:

The Community School Recreation Coordinator (CSRC) will facilitate community-based sport, recreation, and culture opportunities utilizing the school and other community assets for programming. Following the objectives of the Northern Community & School Recreation Coordinator Program (NC&SRCP), these programs will be after school evenings and weekends and in conjunction with community and school special events.

Qualifications:

  • The minimum qualification for the position is a two-year diploma in recreation, leisure studies, or equivalent. Candidates without minimum qualifications can be considered depending upon their strength of local knowledge, and support coupled with appropriate experience and skills. 
  • Experience in sport, culture, and recreation programming; and experience working with volunteers. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- program planning skills - able to speak Cree or Dene would be a significant asset
- organizational & time management skills - understanding of the Community 
- communication and interpersonal skills - able to work independently and as well as part of a team 
- leadership skills - possess a valid Driver’s License – Class 5 
- budgeting and financial management skills
