Northern Lights School Division No.113 is a provincial school system serving a predominantly Indigenous school population throughout an area encompassing the entire northern half of Saskatchewan. The schools are very diverse ranging from 10 to over 500 students per school, and catering to Cree, Dene, Métis, French, and English cultures and languages.


NLSD provides a full range of pre-kindergarten to Grade Twelve programs to more than 4300 students in 21 schools. We have offices located in the beautiful communities of La Ronge and Beauval, both approximately 400 kilometers north of Saskatoon.

 

The division is progressively piloting programs unique to Canada, staying on the cutting edge of technology, and integrating the varied cultural aspects of the communities into the classrooms.

Start Date: ASAP

FTE: Full-time

Term of Employment: Temporary - to December 20, 2024

Salary and Benefits:  According to education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in Communications, Media, Journalism, or a related area of study. A minimum 2-3 years related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both verbal and written to write and format moderately complex correspondence, including media releases, memos, letters, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of computers and software programs in order to enter, retrieve and format data
  • Requires knowledge of syntax, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary in order to write, edit and produce communication materials
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy laws

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage, plan and develop internal and external communications strategies, programs, policies and activities including issues and reputation management, visual identification, employee media, public relations and promotions.
  • Gather, synthesize and report information to be used in communicating legislation, board positions, programs and policies, i.e., annual report.
  • Coordinate and report on scheduled annual events/projects which include: new teacher orientation; NATA convention/new teacher banquet; retirement tea; years of service awards, school board elections, etc.
  • Promotion of monthly themes/events and support indigenization: National Education Week, Anti-Bullying Week, Orange Shirt Day, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Louis Riel Day, Staff Shout Outs, etc.
  • Use and promote the usage of Division social media (Facebook, Instagram, X) for the purpose of professional learning and communication of events and activities by school and office staff.
  • Overall content manager for the Division’s website and support local school websites.
  • Other tasks as defined by the Director of Education.
